Elections to the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation have shown a mighty result, as BJP and Shiv Shena are running neck to neck , even as other cities in Maharashtra continue under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s spell.
Of the 227 seats , the Shiv Shena won 84 seats and BJP 82 and congress 31 . Maharashtra Navnirman Sena could barely register its presence with seven seats, while Sharad Pawar’s NCP could bag only 9 seats.
After falling behind from Shiv Sena through the day, a late afternoon surge saw the tide turn in favour of the BJP.
Some smaller parties are already extending support to the BJP, aides chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
The celebrations in Shiv sena stopped as soon as it became evident that party needs allies to be able to form government in Maharashtra.

The BJP is to take control of Nagpur, Pune. Nashik, Ulhasnagar, Akola, Amravati of the 10 corporations where elections were held.The Shiv Sena is set to retain Thane.
The result led to tremors in congress after its tally in BMC dipped to 31 seats from 52.
